Files are part of the exploration loop: opening them helps you find rewards while moving through folders. The full game lists 33 File types and names LemWire, BigWave and Defrag. The developer also describes challenge Files and special Files that can be activated on demand in the release announcement.
Read the File's job before treating it as loot

This is a role guide, not a fabricated list of all 33 Files and their exact outputs. The public sources do not establish a universal best File or every reward amount.
Use a Task to make exploration more deliberate
The Steam achievement list provides concrete File-related goals: Clearzone asks for 20 LemWire Files; FontArt asks for 12 .jpeg Files; Vapidshare asks for 40 successfully extracted Zip Files. The word successfully matters in that last requirement. Merely encountering or starting to open a Zip is not the condition written there.
Choose a goal, track the named File and compare the result with the exact requirement. These are achievement descriptions; they should not be stretched into claims about every corresponding reward effect.
Be careful with old File advice
The July 14 Demo update introduced dragging Files and says Files already in use, such as a Zip or LemWire, cannot be moved. The same post describes Keygen pickups. Those are useful dated notes when playing that Demo version, but we do not silently turn them into a complete current-release control guide.
A February developer discussion about Vapor.exe also predates the release. Its tradeoffs are not enough to promise that every release interaction is identical. If advice conflicts with the description in your current game, check the version before following it.
