Start by exploring folders and opening Files while avoiding enemies, voids and spam pop-ups. XP, Keys, weapon upgrades and Plugins work together; surviving in one spot is only part of the job. The full release is designed around roughly 30–40 minute runs, according to the official Steam description.
Give your first run one goal
Treat an early run as a chance to understand the loop before chasing an optimal build. Explore, collect rewards and read the choices presented to you. A useful first goal is learning how your chosen weapon behaves while finding Files, rather than assuming every weapon should be played the same way.
- Open the full game if you want release-specific advice. The separate Demo has a smaller weapon and Plugin selection.
- Explore folders for XP and Keys. Files are an active part of progression, not just scenery.
- Read weapon upgrades as they appear. Drivers change a weapon's behavior; they are not simply another name for Plugins.
- Check the Installer type before spending Keys. Legendary Installers require three; Cracked Installers require none.
- Use your next run to pursue a specific Task or learn another system. A failed run does not establish that a weapon is weak.
The first two points follow the release description; Installer differences come from the developer's release announcement. The suggested learning order is editorial advice, not a tested fastest route.
Know which system you are choosing
| System | What it changes | Next decision |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Your offensive setup | Learn its attack behavior before comparing choices |
| Driver | A weapon's behavior through bespoke upgrades | Read the change instead of assuming a flat damage increase |
| Plugin | Weapons or player stats | Check the Installer and available Keys |
| Protocol | Difficulty | Choose the challenge you want to attempt |
| Policy | An additional challenge | Keep it separate from the Protocol difficulty |
| Task | A specified completion goal | Check whether it is cumulative or limited to one run |
The release lists 18 meta upgrades, but that count does not establish a universal purchase order. Likewise, having 24 weapons does not provide evidence for a tier list.
When a run goes wrong
Identify the decision you can investigate next. If you could not use an Installer, compare its requirement with your Keys. If you missed an achievement, reread its exact target and any single-run condition. If an old video suggests a mechanic absent from your game, check whether it shows the Demo.
Bosses and mini bosses include attacks such as shots, charges and temporary invulnerability in the release announcement. Those descriptions help set expectations, but they do not prove a universal dodge sequence or a guaranteed winning build.
Choose your next guide
- Weapons and selected unlock goals explain what is confirmed.
- Drivers cover weapon-level progression.
- Plugins and Keys compare Installer requirements.
- Files and the Safe Folder cover exploration decisions.
- Protocols and Policies and Tasks separate difficulty from completion goals.
